# mise downloads

Avrea caches downloads made by mise on Linux, macOS, and Windows runners.
Use `mise install` as usual; tools are installed locally on each runner.

## Enable

Enable **Package Manager Cache** and **mise Download Cache** in organization
or repository settings. mise caching is off by default and applies to new jobs
and refreshed hosted environments.

## Coverage

- **Node.js and Go:** versioned toolchain downloads.
- **Rust:** toolchains installed through rustup. Moving channel manifests and
  checksums, including minor-version aliases such as `1.80`, stay uncached; rustup bootstrap and self-update are not covered.
- **`pypi:` tools:** version discovery and installation through Avrea's PyPI cache.

Client integrity checks remain enabled. Other mise backends are not covered by
this setting, though some GitHub-hosted downloads may use the separate
[GitHub Release Asset Cache](/cache/packages/github-release-assets/). Cargo packages use the Cargo cache.

## Custom mirrors

Enabling the cache sets these environment variables:

```bash
MISE_NODE_MIRROR_URL="https://cache.avrea.com:8443/mise/node/"
MISE_GO_DOWNLOAD_MIRROR="https://cache.avrea.com:8443/mise/go"
RUSTUP_DIST_SERVER="https://cache.avrea.com:8443/mise/rust"
MISE_PYPI_REGISTRY_URL="https://cache.avrea.com:8443/pypi/simple/{}/"
```

In GitHub Actions, use step-level `env` entries to override these values. The Node.js, Go, and PyPI variables take precedence
over mise TOML settings; keep the `{}` placeholder in a custom PyPI URL.

mise may not fall back if a mirror is unavailable. Turn off **mise Download Cache**
to stop configuring the mirrors.

View toolchain activity under **mise · Downloads** and `pypi:` downloads under
**PyPI**. Cache URLs are accessible only inside Avrea runners.
