# Electron binaries

Avrea caches Electron release archives and their checksum manifests. Repeated
downloads of the same release and platform use the packages cache.

## On Avrea runners

When **Package Manager Cache** and **Electron Binary Cache** are enabled,
Avrea sets this mirror on Linux, macOS, and Windows:

```bash
ELECTRON_MIRROR="https://cache.avrea.com:8443/electron/"
```

Use your normal Electron installation. Downloads are cached automatically
and reused across jobs.

## What is cached

Avrea caches release archives and checksum manifests for stable, alpha, and
beta releases. Electron's npm dependencies use the
[npm cache](/cache/packages/npm/).

View cache activity under **Electron · Binaries** in the console.

## Enable or disable

**Electron Binary Cache** (`cache.electron-binaries.enabled`) is enabled by default.
Turn it on or off at organization or repository level under **Settings** in
the [Avrea console](https://console.avrea.com). **Package Manager Cache**
(`cache.packages.enabled`) must also be enabled.

Disable it for a repository:

```bash
avr settings set cache.electron-binaries.enabled false
```

Re-enable it:

```bash
avr settings set cache.electron-binaries.enabled true
```

Reset to the inherited default:

```bash
avr settings reset cache.electron-binaries.enabled
```

Repository overrides take precedence over organization settings. Changes apply
to new jobs. See [Managing caches](/cache/managing/#cache-settings).

## Overrides

Workflow and step environment variables can override `ELECTRON_MIRROR`.
To clear Avrea's mirror for a step:

```yaml
- run: npm ci
  env:
    ELECTRON_MIRROR: ""
```

Electron's npm configuration and package configuration can take precedence
over this environment variable.

See Electron's [installation guide](https://www.electronjs.org/docs/latest/tutorial/installation#custom-mirrors-and-caches).
